On Monday, November 25th, prior to the start of the 3rd grade music performance, we had our first PTA general meeting of the 2019-2020 school year.  Our general meetings usually take place prior to the start of grade level music performances due to the high attendance rate.  It is an opportunity for the PTA to give an update on what has been going on, share needs and requests, hold votes, and answer any questions that people may have.  Here is a recap of what was shared on November 25th.

So far, we have had a great fall.  We hosted our inaugural Hero’s Color Run fundraiser and surpassed our fundraising goal and raised over $27,000.  Thank you so much to everyone who supported the Color Run!  Funds from the Color Run are used to support the PTA budget, which includes events for students and their families and enhancements to the school.  Some of those enhancements included the xylophone stands and ukuleles, which were used during the 3rd grade performance!  Our fall also included the rolling out of our brand new website.  It is our hope that the website is not only a valuable resource for upcoming events and volunteer sign ups, but also informative blog posts and a photo gallery.

As fall is drawing to a close, we are now gearing up for winter.  Our Annual Breakfast with Santa will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2019.  More information about that event can be found on our events page.  We will also be hosting our school carnival on Friday, January 24, 2020.  The school carnival will once again have a silent auction and we are already starting to look for donations.  Donations can include: gift cards, event tickets, use of vacation properties and so much more!  Please email hhefundraising18@gmail.com if you have items you would like to donate for our silent auction.

We are so thankful and grateful for our business members!  Our business memberships have increased significantly this year.  However, our individual memberships numbers are down 17% this year compared to last year.  It is still not too late to purchase a membership and a membership is open to anyone.  Besides benefiting at the school level, a PTA membership also supports advocacy at the state and national level.  PTA is the nation’s oldest and largest child advocacy association and is committed to ensuring that our nation enacts legislation that supports each and every child.  National PTA’s Legislative Checklist for the 116th Congress, which is available here, includes school safety, online safety, child nutrition and special education.  National PTA also rolled out a brand new podcast called “Notes from the Backpack.”  It is a great podcast with a wealth of information!

In regards to the 2019-2020 budget, our budget includes $750 in income from Chiefs ticket sales.  The board arrived at this number based upon last year’s ticket sales, in which the Chiefs give us $10 back per ticket sold.  We have not currently sold any tickets through this program.  We would like to highly encourage anyone who is planning on attending any upcoming Chiefs games to purchase their tickets through the Chiefs fundraising website and use the code HHEPTA.  Every little bit helps and we are grateful and thankful for your support.

Finally, we are looking for two current PTA members to volunteer to recruit new board members for the 2020-2021 school year.  There are no meetings to attend and it’s a great way to serve the PTA when you have limited availability.  If you are interested in helping in this role, please email hheptals@gmail.com.
