In conjunction with Hawthorn Hill’s theme this year, M.A.D. as a Hornet, with M.A.D standing for Making a Difference, the PTA coordinated a number of service projects for families to participate in.
During our M.A.D as a Hornet Kick-Off Week, we had a penny drive. We partnered with the boys’ soccer teams at Lee’s Summit West High School to help raise funds for Sporting KC’s Victory Project. The Victory Project benefits children battling cancer in the Kansas City region. Students, families, and staff brought in $56.01 to support this important cause!
On Tuesday, September 4th and Wednesday, September 5th, we had 4 service projects that families could sign up for. The projects were open to students of all ages and locations included: Harvesters, Wayside Waifs, Coldwater of Lee’s Summit, and Lee’s Summit Social Services. We are thrilled to report that 59 people participated in these 4 projects!
Additionally, at our Back to School Picnic we had a station for decorating and writing thank you notes. These thank you notes are being sent to Operation Gratitude and delivered to active duty military personnel. Fifty cards were made and will be such an encouragement to current soldiers. Thank you so much to everyone that participated in the activities this week! What a privilege to be able to partner with our school as we make a difference this year!
