Hero's Color Run
What is a Color Run?
A color run is a run in which non-toxic, washable colored powder gets tossed at participants as they run the race course. Hawthorn Hill’s Hero’s Color Run will have color stations, as well as some fun obstacles for kids to run through.
When will the run take place?
Hero’s Color Run will take place on Friday, September 27, 2019 between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. Specific grade level times will be available soon. In the event of rain, Hero’s Color Run will take place on Friday, October 4, 2019.
What should my student wear?
White t-shirts, featuring our Color Run logo and the logos of our Color Run Sponsors, will be provided to every single student. Your student should wear gym shoes and shorts or pants that you are comfortable with them getting the color on. Although every effort is made to toss the color low, you may want your child to wear a bandanna, hat, or sunglasses, as well.
How do I get the color off of my student’s clothes?
After the race, we will be encouraging students to pat or shake the color off. The color powdered is washable. However, results will vary depending on wash temperature, detergent used, etc. It will be better if the colored clothes get washed sooner rather than later.
But what if I want to keep the color on the shirt?!?
Have your student bring an extra change of clothes and a plastic bag and tell them not to shake off the additional color out of their shirt. Place the colored shirt in the plastic bag. Once home, lay the shirt flat and spray with white vinegar so the shirt is soaked. Keep the shirt flat until it dries. Once dry, place a towel or rag between the shirt and iron on high heat. Finally, turn the shirt inside out and toss in the dryer for 10 minutes on high heat to set the color completely. For more information on keeping the color, click here.
Are volunteers needed for Hero’s Color Run?
Absolutely! Volunteers are needed to help throw the color and refill the bottles that contain the colored powder. In addition, volunteers are needed to help with the obstacles. If you are interested in either of these positions, please sign up here.
We are also looking for someone with a drone who would be willing to take pictures and video of Hero’s Color Run. If you are able to help with this, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is the fundraising goal and what will the money be used for?
The fundraising goal is $25,000. For us to reach our goal, we have established a per student goal of $50. The funds raised are used to cover the PTA budget. The PTA budget includes family events like movie nights and Pastries with Parents. The PTA budget also includes student supports like field trip fees and guest speakers for assemblies. The majority of the PTA budget goes towards school enhancements ($12,000) and vouchers for teachers to purchase classroom supplies ($5,000). This year, school enhancements include supporting the needs of our specials teachers. Items include: tables for the patio outside the art room, more ukuleles and stands for the xylophones in the music room, and the installation of an outdoor frisbee golf course for physical education.

How do I donate?
A donation envelope will be sent home with students on Friday, September 20, 2019. Cash or check donations, payable to HHE PTA, can be sent to school starting Monday, September 23rd. Alternatively, if you wish to donate by credit card, you can do so through your child’s fundraising page, which is created after you register. You can register here if you haven’t done so already.
Will there be prizes?
Of course! There will be prizes for the fundraising aspect, not the running aspect as Hero’s Color Run will not be a timed event.
There will be prizes for the classroom in each grade level that raises the most money. There will also be tickets given to students based on how much money they raise. These tickets will give them the chance to win fun raffle prizes! Also, if we reach our goal of $25,000, Dr. Hogg has agreed to kiss a hog! Raffle and school-wide prize will take place during our spirit assembly on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
